2010 LAKE VICTORIA TRIATHLON
Triathlon combines three different sports into a single race – swimming, cycling, running. The 5thLake Victoria Triathlon takes place in Entebbe on 26th September 2010, organised by Activate Uganda Ltd.
It comprises: 1000m open water swim in Lake Victoria; 30km bicycle ride and finally a 10km run.
Collection of race numbers / timing chips starts at 6:00am and the race will start between 7:00 and 7:30am
The Lake Victoria Triathlon is an annual event that has been hosted in Entebbe since 2006. Every year it attracts an increasing number of participants. In 2009, 140 participants took part.
Triathlons are globally gaining more and more followers and the number of events that take place each year is increasing. Nowadays there are race distances on offer for all levels of fitness. These not only provide for exciting and challenging endurance races but triathletes appreciate the combination of three different exercise routines required to master the three sports. This combination offers an almost ideal workout routine for the entire body.
To date in Sub-Saharan Africa, apart from in countries like South Africa and Namibia, triathlons are still a rather exotic event. Yet with the Lake Victoria Triathlon, we are hoping to nurture this sport in Uganda. As the organiser, we are pleased that over the past years, the numbers have steadily increased and more and more Ugandans are taking a liking to this sport. The chosen routes for the Lake Victoria Triathlon are very scenic, provide great views over the lake and take the participants all around Entebbe.
Participation can either be as:
individuals who complete the entire race by themselves
in teams, in which say a group of friends share the different parts of the race among themselves.
a Corporate Team We encourage companies in Uganda to sponsor some of their sport-loving staff members in this category.
Registration for the event can be made until 18 September at:
a desk outside Game at Lugogo
the Adrift Office (UWA Building on Kira Road)
The Alliance Française on MacKinnon Road in Nakasero during normal office hours.
Late registration is possible though a 10,000/= surcharge will then be payable.
Normal Team 40,000/=
Corporate Team 100,000/=
ELECTRONIC TIMINGThis year, for the first time, Activate Uganda is utilising state-of-the-art electronic timing equipment, used in renowned international events. In order for us to time all participants electronically, they will need to be registered in good time, so that we can guarantee that their details are captured accurately by our timing system and so that a timing chip and race number can be issued to them on race day.
The following sponsors are supporting this year’s event: Nile Special, Rwenzori Mineral Water, Orange, Adrift, Wild Frontiers, Kayak the Nile and The Alliance Française.
